About
The Independent Business Women's Circle (IBWC) in Great Neck was launched in April 1999 as a "social network" to bring together entrepreneurial women in diverse fields who recognize the benefits of making time to leave the office to meet new, like-minded people. Robin Gorman Newman, a public relations professional, and author, "How to Meet a Mensch in New York" and “How to Marry a Mensch,” is the founder of IBWC.
IBWC is different than other networking organizations for women. Camaraderie is encouraged as much as networking. While most members are self-employed, the IBWC welcomes those employed by companies in a more independent capacity. The group's philosophy is that it is truly through both relationship-building and information/resource-sharing that women can grow, take risks, launch successful businesses, cultivate new clients and careers, share trade secrets, and enrich their personal and professional lives. At IBWC we believe that women have a limitless potential to achieve whatever they desire. We are here to provide a nurturing and supportive environment to help make that happen.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from 12:30 - 2:30 PM. Expert speakers lead workshops on a wide range of topics, and networking is promoted through business card exchange and special "Conversation and Connections" events. IBWC is a member of the United Community Fund and the Great Neck Chamber of Commerce and Long Island Women's Agenda (LIWA).
